He is relaxing. He is learning about his reflection in the door, the screens in the windows and the noises from the neighbors. He is curious but cautious. He has started wagging his tail and scampering in the yard. Hasn't chased a ball yet, but he is watching carefully.

Our trees have grown a lot over the last 25 years and they are not easy to climb. The trunks are thicker and the branches have been trimmed, so you have to reach farther. But you still have to climb them!

The 4LKelleys have a Trench party every year on the Saturday before Father's Day.

People from all over the world appear at their house.

The variety of people is awesome and the age span is vast.

And the whole day is truly fun!

Everybody brings something to eat.
Sandwiches are the main plan, and I was going to get pictures of the feast, but it just didn't happen.
The desserts were wonderful as well as all the main attractions.

She would line them up and then knock them over, one at a time, as she sang -- This little piggie went to market ...

Lindsay made wonderful deviled eggs to go with our Memorial Day cookout stuff. She even had her great-grandmother's deviled egg tray to show them off before everyone gobbled them up! And she brought a wonderful apple pie!

I didn't get a picture of Lisa's great corn salsa or the frozen strawberry dessert that she made. Darn!

Laura really enjoyed her eggs!
And we made Ice Cream in a Mega Ball. It was fun, but everyone started to lose their focus before we were done.

And here we are, all relaxed, just before the sirens went off and we all headed to the basement for the rest of the evening.

We play Carpet Hockey on the tile floor, but we do wear our helmets just in case.

Simondelivers.com is an online grocery story. You just click on the food you want and it arrives at your door. Very cool!!
Here are the containers that they use for your order.
They wash these about every four trips, unless they think the containers are extra dirty.
I've never had one that I would complain about.

There were conveyor belts and ramps and boxes to the ceiling.
This area was kept at 34 F for the produce.

I didn't get a very good picture of this, but the ramps at the end of this aisle was mind-boggling!

There were carts with twelve containers for six orders that would be pushed up and down the aisle so the operator could do the shopping. It is computerized. No surprise there, but it knows if you put in the right amount of the right item. They are 99.93% accurate!

And I couldn't tell how the shelves were sorted. The black pepper was next to the cookies and that was next to a package of Suddenly Salad.

I had a fun time!

Ten years ago, CaringBridge started with one website created to help one family in a health crisis.
Three years ago, Lisa's nephew was born almost three months premature. It helped our family keep up with his progress and we could send messages of prayers and love.
Last year, our friend Will lost a long-fought battle with cancer, but CaringBridge helped all his friends keep in touch.
Joe's friend Nate was diagnosed with liposarcoma in 2005 and this year he has been fighting again. We have been updated and his surgery on Tuesday was a great success.

I just want everyone to know about CaringBridge and what it is for and that it is available for you if you need it and that it is free for the families that need and use it. This important free service will only continue through charitable support. Just sayin'.

A Few Highlights of Summer

For Memorial Day, Joe and I went to Macomb to visit my parents and see my grandma "abuelita" Vicky. She doesn't speak any English, but surprisingly her and Joe had a lot of fun getting to know eachother through games and laughing.

We have a softball team called The Cardinal. Only two weeks left in our fall season. Joe pitches and I have expanded my skills at first base!

In August my family took a vacation to Manistee, MI. A few of us went out at 4:30am to go salmon fishing and caught a ton of fish! In the picture below is my dad, Uncle Tony, Me, Aunt Jan, Joe and my brother Ryan. (I know it might look deceiving, but my aunt is actually trying to point at her fish because she caught the biggest one!)

SALSA!!

Yup, I got a little carried away with the salsa canning. I bought a box of tomatoes at the Farmer's market and I just love salsa. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I didn't know how long it would take to peel and dice and cook and process all that stuff. And this doesn't even show the 6 pints that ended up in the fridge because I didn't have time to process another batch. At least I know not to put them in the freezer!!

I didn't want Bob and Lisa to have all the fun, so I made Roasted Garlic Jelly. This time I actually bought a mini-canner and rack and jar lifter. That is so much easier than trying to make-do with what was already here!

This is a Tomato Basil Quiche (using basil that I have been growing and using this summer). Joe and Lindsay were here for lunch and I should have gotten a picture of the great Strawberry Rhubarb Pie that they baked. It even had the lattice crust and it was beautiful and tasted even better!

And here are my Pickled Peppers. Some of them are from my plants (check the last post if you want to see them) and I did buy some of them. They'll be ready in a month. Come on over for the tasting!!

Only two months ago, I traded in my Saturn station-wagon. I had been trying to figure a way to get a new windshield in it, but it wasn't broken or cracked or anything like that. It was 'frosted' with tiny dust-sized scratches that made it hard to see in sunlight. NOW I have a new car and an even newer windshield. It just cracked, for no reason. No impact.

But it was an interesting experience. I have never watched anyone replace a windshield before and it sure takes a lot of steps.

Lon was asked to be in our friend Steve's wedding and Grandma QoE agreed to nearly a week of Grandma days so Lon and I took off for Charleston, South Carolina. It was the first time, since we have had kids, that we have been gone for more than two days. We missed the kids, but it was paradise! We can't wait to go back, and to take the kids with us this time! :-)

This was the view from our boardwalk, which was less than a minute walk from our villa. Note, the tide is low in this picture.

On our last day we watched the sunrise. You will note that the tide is not as low this day!

We did manage to do a little sightseeing. These pictures are from the Cypress Gardens. The first picture is of the swamp. The second one is a picture of the only male crocodile in the swamp (and yes, he visits all of the female crocodiles!).

Oh, and pictures of the wedding....the reason we went on the trip! :-)

There is something neat about an empty stage. After we strike, I always walk across it and just take a deep breath. It is like the Present, where we exist. The Past is gone, but has left marks and memories all around. The floor has paint and scratches. You can't see them, but the props and costumes have been stashed away for when we will need them most. The air has a tingle of anticipation of what is to come, the Future. We all know it won't be exactly as we planned, but we forge ahead anyway, creating and filling the empty space we are standing on.
Why?
Because it is what we do.

Sometimes one feels the need to shave their head. I can attest to that! I can't say the look is totally her, but it isn't bad and it doesn't mean she is going crazy or anything. Comeon people! isn't there more important news out there than a lady shaving her head and another dead lady's kid? I saw a 5 minute spot on the news this morning about how much time has been covered on the news about Anna Nicole. I think they said 46% was her...21% was Iraq and 10% was election. I know that isn't 100%, so they must have left some stuff off. Thanks. Cut Britany some slack.

The QoE will use the names of pets and such when filling in forms that require a postal mail address. One of the retired racing greyhounds we had was Run Rebel Run which we shortened to Rebel. So Reb L Kelley was used. Here is a picture of Rebel and Sally (standing).

On Feb 1st, we received the following. I guess he is really retired now. Foot note: Rebel died of bone cancer in November 1996.
